June on Birmingham

Here are my favorites of June's six month photo shoot. We went to Vulcan park which is up on the crest in the middle of the city.
Hanging out, waiting to be the star of the show

Almost standing without mom's help

Playing with her name puzzle

"J what?"

"Mommy gave me this to hold."

"What is it?"
"Sorry June, but Mommy doesn't even know."

Playing with Great-Grandma's beads

There's a smile!
Her favorite face, trying to whistle

That is Vulcan in the background. He watches over the city.

Movin' Along

Here is another update on what June has been up to lately. A few of these I forgot when I was posting about her 6 month accomplishments and a few are new since then.

1. June can take apart her name puzzle. Not as cool as putting together a puzzle, I know, but I'm still impressed.

2. June can hold her own bottle. She has been able to do this for awhile now, probably since around four months.

3. June had her toenails painted for the first time for St. Patrick's Day!

4. June had her first Big Girl bath. Since she can now sit up on her own, we figured she would enjoy playing in the tub. We were right.

5. June's first tooth broke through on Friday night, March 16th. Thankfully, we had no clue it was coming. Since then I wonder if some of her crabbiness is from sore gums, but overall she has been a very happy teether so far. I know its hard to see her tooth, but I promise it's there.

6. June can drink out of a straw. This video isn't very good and she has gotten much better since then, but you get the idea. I think mostly she just enjoys letting the water run down the front of her shirt, especially in this heat.

7. I don't have a picture of this and I can't figure out how to post the videos so I'm sorry, but you will just have to imagine. June has this little farm touch and feel book that she absolutely loves. This, if anything, will be her motivation for learning to crawl. She will pick that book out of her pile of toys and chase it around the room. Poor girl, whenever she reaches for it, she pushes it further away. This leads to frustrated grunts and a lot of hard work to move her body closer to the book again. She will do this for up to an hour before becoming too frustrated and I give in and hand her the book. It has been amazing seeing the different ways she maneuvers her body to get to where she wants to be. I'm sure we are only weeks away from a crawler and then we are in big trouble.

Halfway to One

Wow time has really flown by. Yesterday, June turned six months old. She had her six month check up the day before and her measurements were:

Weight: 16 lbs. 10 oz. (67th percentile)
Height: 26.5 inches (80th percentile, not off the charts like she has been, but as the doctor pointed out, how accurate can a moving target be measured. She is still really tall.)
Head Circumference: 16.5 inches (50th percentile)

June had to have vaccinations done again that included two shots and one oral plus a finger prick. Surprisingly, June only let out one short cry for the second shot. She was such a champ.

June at her appointment

Other than growing, June has made some great accomplishments. About a week ago, on March 2nd, June had her first long run of sitting up by herself. She sit up for about forty-five minutes straight through our entire bible study. She has been doing really good since then as well. She still falls over occasionally, but it doesn't seem to bother her.

The other thing she has recently learned is reaching. Whenever I walk near her and she wants to be held, she will reach her hands towards me. Its so awesome for her to show how much she wants me. Sadly, I haven't been able to get a picture of this yet, but you will see it when I do.

The last thing June had accomplished goes hand in hand with her being able to sit up on her own. June rode in a shopping cart for the first time this week. You can see how much fun she was having sitting up like a big girl.

I look forward to sharing her six month pictures next week. Oh yeah, and....

Birthday Twins

Jeff tried to show me how to fix the videos last night and I thought I had it down, but I guess not. Since I am still having trouble fixing the videos I want to post, I thought I would share some photos from a recent get together we had with friends. One of the ladies that Jeff works with and her family came over one night for dinner. Their son, Stepan, was born the same day as June and is only 36 minutes older. Another crazy thing, they were married only six days before us. The wife is from Russia and brought over an amazing Russian meat dish and Jeff made his famous Chicken Marsala (Jeff's Version of course).

"Hey, June. What's up!"

"Uh oh, we got caught."

"And the snowmen go away during the summer!"

It was so much fun seeing the two babies interact. They had a lot of fun and were very entertaining for us parents.
